The Andaman Islands is a Union Territory in India. It is a chain of islands in the Bay of Bengal.  The islands have many tourist locations which are quite popular. We take a look at some of them below.

Ross Island

Ross Island in Andaman is one of the most beautiful places. It has some ruins of constructions from the British Era. All around the island you can have some beautiful landscapes to see. There is a small museum that has interesting pictures of the island from the bygone era. There is also a light and sound show held every day except Wednesday, after it gets dark.

The island can be reached in 15 minutes by a boat ferry from Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex jetty.

Port Blair

Port Blair is the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. There is a vibrant mix of inhabitants here. There are many museums here as well as an Indian naval base – INS Jarawa. There is also the famous Cellular Jail. The island is named Port Blair in honour of Lieutenant Archibald Blair of East India Company.

Cellular Jail

The Cellular Jail in Andaman Island was used by the British to incarcerate political prisoners, before Indian Independence. Veer Savarkar was one the notable convicts imprisoned here. It has 696 isolation cells, designed in such way that it is almost impossible to converse with other inmates while in the cell.

The construction of the jail was completed in 1906.

Chidia Tapu

Chidia Tapu is one of the best places to see sunset in Port Blair. Many species of birds visit this place and hence the island has become a spot for bird watching. The road that leads to Chidiya Tapu is very narrow but extremely scenic. For the adventure lovers, there is a trekking trail that leads to a hidden coastline, which is missed by many travelers.

Havelock Island

The Radhanagar beach on Havelock Island was named as The Best Beach in Asia by Time in 2004. At many beaches, water sports like snorkeling is organized. Havelock has some pristine beaches, so if you love spending time at the beach this is a must visit for you.
